After you have bought a DSLR, you need to know how to take professional pictures. Only some basic knowledge is enough to get you started.
Photography stands for writing (graphy) with light (photo). The knowledge of light is very important in order to click great photographs. The best place to take great photographs is outside. On a brightly lit day, the photographs come out to be very vibrant. A few precautions have to be taken while shooting in the sun. The sunlight should not enter the camera directly. Shield it using a piece of cloth or your hand from entering into the aperture. This deteriorates the colors in the photograph. Another precaution is not to take a photograph with the sun at the top or at the back of the subject. This darkens the subject. Flash should be avoided as it deeply illuminates the subjects close by and darkens the rest of the picture. Try experimenting with the shutter speed.
After framing the shot in your mind, try taking the same shot from different angles. There is no harm taking more pictures and experimenting with angles. Its digital photography, you won’t have to waste a film. Take the same photograph with different zoom levels. Try to take each shot with a different background and angle. Try both the landscape as well as the portrait formats. Portraits may sometimes give you brilliant photographs.
While taking portraits of a person, try to focus on eye which is towards you. This gives you a deeper depth of field. Use of portrait format is recommended while taking portraits as this gives higher exposure to the subject. While taking portraits, use a tripod to minimize vibration. The person cannot constantly stand or sit steady. Try to keep your camera steady using the tripod.
For sports and wildlife photography, use a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens has a higher focal length and captures distant object closely. Using an 18-55 lens in this genre would make the objects very distant and even cropping would not be possible.
After mastering photographic techniques, go through some tutorials of photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop is most used software for editing photographs. Its ‘heal’ tool can be used to remove unwanted objects caught in the frame like wires. If you are lethargic, just try to crop the photograph to bring your subject in a strong position where it gets attention. Photography is just like painting. All you need is imagination. You can easily learn how to take professional pictures by letting your imagination run wild.
